Performance format: with his band, The Jonathan Rubain Band (drums, bass, percussion, guitar, keys, saxophone), in duo and trio formats.
Jonathan is one of the emerging stars of Cape Town music. At almost 23 years old, and from one of the city's toughest suburbs, Hanover Park, Jonathan has excelled to become the bass player of preference for legends such as Mac McKenzie, Alvin Dyers and Robbie Jansen.With the Cape Jazz Band he has played at festivals France and Malaysia, and he has played with the Goema Captains of Cape Town in Reunion. His own band, the Jonathan Rubain Band, is becoming a festival fixture in Cape Town.
Jonathan is working on his debut album. His track I wish I could Groove, features on the Goemarati compilation of Cape Town classics, and his performances have featured on several albums, including the Goema Captains acclaimed album Healing Destination.
In April 2009, Jonathan and his band featured on the Basil Coetzee stage at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.
